Journal Register Co. announced that it has acquired
the Montgomery Newspaper Group from Metroweek Corp.
The Montgomery Newspaper Group, based in Fort
Washington, Pa., is comprised of 16 non-daily newspapers with a combined
circulation of more than 95,000; three lifestyle magazines with a circulation of
57,000; and five specialty publications with a circulation of 188,000, all of
which serve communities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The company
reported revenues of $18 million in 2000.
Montgomery Newspaper Group will become part of
Journal Register’s greater Philadelphia cluster, which includes Suburban
Publications, the InterCounty Newspaper Group, Acme Newspapers and Phoenixville
Newspapers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Journal Register owns a total of six daily
newspapers and 88 non-daily newspapers in the Philadelphia area. Nationwide, the
company owns 22 daily newspapers and 195 non-daily publications in the areas of
Philadelphia, Cleveland, Connecticut, central New England, and in the
Capital-Saratoga and Hudson regions of New York.
