Heidelberg floats out Mainstream 80 for show

NEW ORLEANS — Heidelberg showed visitors to its booth two units from the 1-by-4 Mainstream 80 presses that will be delivered to Telegraph Group in England.

The units are from the first two presses, which will be shipped in August to Telegraph’s Trafford Park Printers in Manchester. The Telegraph Group has ordered a total of seven Mainstream 80 presses.

The News & Record in Greensboro, N.C., has purchased a Heidelberg shaftless Magnapak inserting system. The 32-station Magnapak will be used to supplement the newspaper’s Heidelberg NP-1472 inserters. The newspaper has expanded its mailroom to accommodate the new system and allow for more preprint storage. The News & Record, which averages 36 inserts every Sunday, will have the system in operation next month.

Heidelberg also announced that a 120,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing facility in Durham, N.H., will be finished in November. The facility, which is 10 miles from Heidelberg’s headquarters in Dover, is being used to construct the company’s Mainstream press, the single-width Mercury press, and press models currently under development. The engineering, research and development, and service operations will also be expanded at the Durham site. It also will have a warehouse that will allow the press manufacturer to increase its service parts capacity by 50 percent.
