Goss Graphic Systems Inc. announced June 4 that
it is laying off approximately 25 percent of the staff at its headquarters in
Westmont, Ill.
It is the second round of layoffs for the press
manufacturer in the last four months, and the third round in the last 18 months.
Goss will also realign the remaining staff at its
headquarters. The company did not state how many jobs will ultimately be
affected.
Goss President Richard Sutis, who replaced James
Sheehan, said the move was made to simplify the process flow associated with
manufacturing and customer service, adding that the layoffs “reflect both
improved practices and a shift in product mix.”
The layoffs are one of several major moves made
by the company since it emerged from bankruptcy in late 1999.
Sheehan stepped aside as president and chief
executive officer on April 18, but remained as chairman. On June 1, he resigned
as chairman and was replaced by Thomas Cochill.
In February, Goss laid off 150 employees at its
manufacturing facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the end of 1999, the company
closed its manufacturing facility in Reading, Pa., which affected more than 145
employees, some of whom were rehired at the Cedar Rapids facility.
