ProImage America Inc. is launching version 4.0 of
its NewsWay digital workflow solution for newspapers at Nexpo.
Significant enhancements include support for PDF,
bitmap workflow, Ifra Track, CIP3 format and International Color Consortium
profiles. The new NewsWay also includes the ability to preflight PDFs and
additional raster image processor options.

NewsWay manages imposition, job planning, network workflow management,
output management, resource scheduling and production tracking.

With PDF workflow, customers will be able to either RIP once and output on
many devices, or RIP close to the output device and allow a calibration per
printing device, said John Ialacci, president of ProImage America. Our
modular NewsWay system provides the complete digital workflow solution to ensure
that printers and publishers enjoy a successful move to computer-to-plate.
NewsWay uses a standard browser and PC hardware
to manage imposition, job planning, network workflow management, output
management, resource scheduling and production tracking. The system also
performs imposition, page pairing and load balancing on output devices. It will
drive imagesetters and CTP equipment, as well as interface to other existing
equipment such as plate scanners.
Ink management
An optional feature within NewsWay is the ink
management system. This calculates and delivers key values to most popular press
control management systems.
For example, the system is able to simultaneously
send ink values to an eight-unit Goss system and a 27-key Color Microsystems
press control system. This allows the user to benefit by being able to preset
ink values on two presses with different press control management systems.
The NewsWay ink management system can also be
used with manually keyed presses such as Goss Community and MAN Roland UniMAN
installations. It does this by printing hard copy ink values for subsequent
manual setup.
Soft proofing
Another important feature within NewsWay is the
soft proofing option. This includes color space correction over an Intranet or
the Internet to enhance print quality. Users simply specify CMYK color standards
to achieve true color representation on color--calibrated monitors.
The NewsWay soft proofing option provides the
ability to view color space as a partial page down to individual rosettes. Color
printers may be connected to the system to obtain color-corrected proofs.
NewsWay users
NewsWay is already in daily use at several
newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times and USA Today in the United States,
the International Herald Tribune and Libération in France, The Telegraph Group
in the United Kingdom, Milliyet and Hürriyet in Turkey, Die Zeit in Germany,
and the Yangcheng Evening News in China.
