PREPRESS

Wieck Media Services named James Wieck its chairman and chief executive officer. He replaces Travis Hughs, who died March 19 after a lengthy battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Linda Hughs became company director after her husband’s death.

Marge Boatright was named president and chief operating officer for Wieck Media Services.

In keeping with the company’s new focus on marketing cost-effective media delivery systems, Wieck hired Bruce Bakke as its sales manager for public relations agencies. Bakke is a veteran newsman and public relations practitioner.

 

Software Consulting Services appointed Bob McCullion as manager of sales. McCullion has been with SCS as a sales consultant since November 2000. As manager of sales, he will help all SCS sales application representatives maximize potential as well as helping SCS grow and prosper.

 

GRIPdigital named four manufacturer’s representatives to support trade service companies, printers and graphic arts dealers in response to increased demand for the Centurfax CCDot DotMeter product line in North and South America.

The representatives are: Chuck Magin of Charles Graphics in Brookfield, Conn., Paul Baymore of Einar-Morton Marketing Corp. in Walden, N.Y., Marc Charles of Manufacturers Representatives & Consultants in Seattle and Doug Mayhew, an independent manufacturers representative in San Mateo, Calif.

 

London Litho appointed Jamie Walsh as sales manager of its New Brighton, Minn., facility. The New Brighton facility is one of eight London Litho locations throughout the Midwest. Walsh brings over 14 years of electronic imaging experience and technical sales expertise to the company.

 



RealTimeIMage Inc. hired Chris Gulker as vice president for worldwide marketing. Gulker brings 20 years of technology marketing and publishing experience to RealTimeImage. He is responsible for marketing the RealTimeProof product line worldwide.

 

PRESS

Global anilox-roll supplier Harper Corp. of America appointed Tonya McEachin to the position of technical lab analyst at its Advanced Surface Technologies Center in Charlotte, N.C. McEachin will be responsible for evaluating ecochecks, banded roll analysis and fingerprint analysis, and will work with customers regarding technical issues and coating recommendations.

 

Donald Aiken was named president of ABB Inc., the U.S. arm of the global technology company ABB. He will serve as ABB group representative in the United States and will head the company’s process industries division in the United States.

 

The Austin Co. appointed Michael Debish to project manager. He will be based in the company’s Midwest office in Scahumburh, Ill. Debish will initially focus on projects that can benefit from his 17 years of management and engineering experience in the broadcast, publishing and manufacturing sectors.

The company also announced the return of Leonard Elliott as consultant and vice president emeritus for the Austin Newspaper Group. He will support the group in the planning, design and implementation of major projects and will assist in developing marketing strategies.

 

POSTPRESS

 

Gary Harris was appointed as Buhrs Americas Inc.’s West regional sales manager for inserting and wrapping equipment product lines. Harris brings a record of accomplishment to Buhrs in providing solutions to organizations in their print production and mailing areas.

 

NEW MEDIA

Peter de Souza was named director of sales for CityXpress.com Corp. to head up the company’s new sales development team based in Kirkland, Wash. De Souza will be responsible for overseeing a team of four as CityXpress continues to launch its Special Sections, such as Home & Garden, with media partners throughout the United States and Canada.

Steve Cissel joined CityXpress.com as director of media sales. His main responsibility is to secure additional media partners, with a focus on independent newspaper publishers in the United States.



INDUSTRY 

Randy Waugaman was named circulation director for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Waugaman began his tenure in 1984 as circulation sales development manager for the Pittsburgh Press. He had served as interim circulation director since November 2000.

 



James Slife joined the Printing Industries of America as chief executive officer and principal shareholder of The Pioneer Group, in Waterloo, Iowa. The Pioneer Group consists of Pioneer Graphics, based in Waterloo, and Pioneer Communications, based in Des Moines.

 

Steve Bonoff was named to succeed Hank Hatch as president of The International Prepress Association. As president, Bonoff will direct and coordinate member services and programs and promote the IPA and its membership.

 

Gannett Co. Inc. board members James Johnson and Stephen Munn were re-elected at the company’s recent annual meeting. Also re-elected was Gannett Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Douglas McCorkindale.

McCorkindale announced to shareholders at the meeting that former health and human services secretary Donna Shalala would join Gannett’s board of directors on June 1.

 

Paul Davidson was appointed chief executive of Newsquest. Davidson, former group managing director, will take for Executive Chairman Jim Brown when he retires at the end of July. Brown will continue as non-executive chairman. Paul Hunter will be appointed Newsquest’s finance director to replace John Pfeil, who is leaving Newsquest. Hunter previously served as group finance controller for the company since 1997.

 

Lee Enterprises elected Carl Schmidt as its vice president , chief financial officer and treasurer. Schmidt was formerly senior vice president and chief financial officer of Johnson Outdoors Inc. in Racine, Wis., and a partner of a public accounting firm in Milwaukee.

Lee Enterprises President and Chief Executive Officer Mary Junck said Schmidt brings a broad array of experience and skills that will help Lee sharpen its focus on expanding in newspaper publishing.
