PREPRESS

Monaco Systems Inc. named Arthur Kliman vice president of sales and business development. In this newly created role, he will direct all of the company’s sales and strategies for new business development.


As part of the restructuring of its Professional Unit, Eastman Kodak Co. appointed Aaron “Jeff” McLeod to general manager of photographic services at Kodak Professional and vice president of Eastman Kodak Co.

Regina Pizzoli, currently regional business general manager of the United States and Canada and vice president of Health Imaging, has taken on McLeod’s previous roles as regional business general manager for the United States and Canada and vice president of Kodak Professional.

 

Beth Hogan Scott was named director of corporate marketing and worldwide marketing communications for Kodak Polychrome Graphics. She provides overall public relations direction regarding corporate issues and strategic product messages and acts as a corporate resource to worldwide marketing personnel.


The company also appointed Vic Stalam as vice president, chief marketing and business development officer. Stalam provides direction to KPG’s strategic business planning and development strategies.

 

Bob Magliozzo, Tim Downie, Doug Rosen, Joe Cattaneo and Lin Edwards joined Mactive Inc. as implementation specialists.

Joyce Madden was named Mactive’s new project manager, and Melissa Rios joined Mactive as a technical writer.

 

Edward French joined Saxotech Inc.’s operations in Rockville, Md., as a customer fulfillment team leader. He is part of the team that provides technical sales support, workflow analysis, product installation and integration, and long-term customer support.

 

X-Rite Inc. appointed Juan DaSilva graphic arts sales manager for Latin America. His appointment is part of X-Rite’s effort to expand its coverage and support in Latin America. The company is also appointing additional dealers and offering direct technical support in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico.

DaSilva is responsible for the sale of X-Rite’s graphic arts division product lines, and for cultivating new partners, managing distributor relationships and supporting the marketing of the company’s color measurement solutions.

 

ECRM Imaging named Franz Repp as area sales manager for Germany. His principal responsibility is building on existing sales channels and extending new ones alongside Christian Wirt, ECRM’s area sales manager of Central Europe.

 

Akiyoshi Shima was named the new president of Mitsubishi Imaging. He replaces President and Chief Executive Officer Atsushi Bando, who retired Feb. 1.

Thomas Hauser was named company spokesman and head of corporate communications for MAN Roland. In his new position, Hauser will expand internal communication structures and its media and advance the work of MAN Roland’s public relations efforts.

 

Dauphin Graphic Machines appointed Lou Patoto as vice president of international sales. He is responsible for all of the company’s sales outside the Western Hemisphere.

The company also appointed Sherry Midtsatre to technical sales representative for Southern California.

 

Valorie Hargett and Don Mills have joined designAlliance as principals and owners of the consulting firm. In recognition of its broader ownership, the company has changed its official name to designAlliance, dropping the Harding*Ankarlo.

Hargett’s and Mills’ leadership will further the company’s commitment to providing business solutions to the media, and support its long-term goals for innovation and growth, said designAlliance.

 

 

POSTPRESS

K&M Newspaper Services appointed Thomas Toth as the new director of operations at their Monroe, N.Y., manufacturing facility. He is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing facility, customer service operations and development of new product lines.

 

NEW MEDIA

Angus Twombly was named vice president of customer development for InfiNet. He replaces Susan Kelly-Gilbert, who left InfiNet in February to spend more time with her family. Twombly previously served as InfiNet’s marketing director since August 2000.




Tribune Media Services, a provider of information and entertainment services for newspapers, appointed Nedra Plonski as technology director for its recently formed Multimedia Products and Services Group.

 



Joseph Pargola
was appointed vice president of Shira, an online prepress and native PDF workflow solutions provider. Based in the United States, Pargola will focus on the worldwide sales of Shira’s PDF and TIFF/IT products and its Web-based solutions, eP2 Online and eP2 Onsite.

 

Everstream named Blake Squires as its chief operating officer. Squires, a founding employee of the company, has been the vice president of operations since evertream’s inception in 1999.

 

B-Linked Inc. appointed Reid Rogers to head the consumer service operations of AdTransit.com, the ad placement network for display advertising materials.

 

INDUSTRY

Steve Rossi is the new president of Knight Ridder’s newspaper division. Rossi is responsible for all of the company’s newspaper operations, including publications in Philadelphia, Fort Worth, Texas, and San Jose, Calif.

Rossi was executive vice president and general manager of The Philadelphia Enquirer and The Philadelphia Daily News before joining the Knight Ridder corporate team.



Dow Jones & Co. appointed Richard Zannino as an executive vice president and chief financial officer of the company. In his new role, he will supervise the company’s finance, technology and strategic planning activities.

 

James Vesely was named editorial page editor of The Seattle Times. Cameron is retiring from the daily newspaper business but will continue to contribute to The Seattle Times editorial pages.s

 

The Los Angeles Times named Joseph Russin assistant managing editor for multimedia. He will be responsible for establishing The Times’ new multimedia desk and overseeing the newspaper’s multimedia publishing operations and cross-promotional efforts. He will also manage all content-sharing initiatives involving latimes.com, Tribune-owned newspapers and television stations including KTLA 5 in Los Angeles, and other radio and television content partners.

 

The Boston Globe promoted senior executive William Ketter to vice president of community relations and assistant to the publisher. Veteran newsman Alfred Larkin Jr. was promoted to senior vice president of human resources.

 

Richard Daniels was appointed as president of Globe Newspaper Co., effective Feb. 16. The announcement was made by Boston Globe Chairman and Publisher Richard Gilman.

Daniels will replace 25-year veteran and company President William Huff, who is retiring early from the Globe to pursue other interests and opportunities, including community service programs and projects.

 

Jay Sabin was promoted to vice president of labor relations for The New York Times. He is responsible for the paper’s daily labor relations within its 15 unions.

Alexis Buryk, vice president of advertising for The New York Times, was promoted to group vice president, advertising sales. Her additional responsibilities include co-managing The Time’s Customer Order Fulfillment Center as well as coordinating group advertising sales efforts with The Boston Globe, the Regional Newspaper Group, The International Herald Tribune and New York Times Digital.

Nancy Lee, director of business development for the news services division of The New York Times, has been promoted to vice president of business development of that division as well. She will continue to report Thomas Carley, president of news services.

 

New York Times Digital named Jason Krebs vice president of sales for NYTimes.com and Christine Cook vice president of international sales for the site. Cook’s position is a newly created one in Europe, which will bring NYTimes.com to international sales clients and distribution partners.

 

Matthew Spahn was unanimously elected as chairman for The Audit Bureau of Circulations. He replaces former Chairman S. Scott Harding. A former member of ABC’s Young Media Professionals Committee, Spahn was elected to ABC’s board as an advertiser director in 1997.

 

IFRA announced the appointment of publishing-industry veteran executive George Sinclair to promote its activities in North America. Based in Toronto, he is responsible for supporting IFRA members and developing membership throughout the publishing industry in Canada and the United States, and providing a global view on trends and technology for the industry.

Sinclair will provide consulting and training services, organize publishing-related events, and promote distribution of IFRA publications.
