Atex Media Solutions Inc. has named Karen Weltchek president and chief executive officer of the company following the resignation of Larry Mihalchik.

Weltchek moves to Atex from McKinsey and Co., a global management and consulting firm, where she specialized in new business strategies for technology companies. She was the leading consultant to Atex and was "instrumental in formulating Atex Media Solutions new growth strategy," according to Knut Holli, the newly elected chairman of the board for Atex and its largest shareholder.

Atex said the changes emphasize the continued growth of the company and position it to be "the leading provider of multimedia solutions for the digital age."

Weltchek said: "I am proud to join the leadership team of a company that has enormous potential. We are strongly committed to our core media market, newspapers, and seek to expand our products and services to support growth with new multimedia solutions."

Company officials declined to comment on specific reasons for Mihalchik's departure, saying only "he had accomplished all he wanted with the company."

In addition to the change at the top, Max Coebergh, senior vice president of international operations, will head Atex's global media operations, which consists of international operations, North American operations, engineering and marketing.
