AOL has decided to shutter, find partners for, or sell almost 300 Patch sites just two years after expanding the local-reporting initiative to all 50 states.
AOL is reviewing plans for Patch with the company’s board and final action will take place over the coming weeks.
“I’m not going to go into tons of detail,” CEO Tim Armstrong told Newsday. “We don’t have an approved proposal yet around it.”
Armstrong went on to say that some Patch sites could be merged, especially those where residents of one town use a downtown commercial center in another town.
Although up to 500 jobs are on the line, “there is no scenario where we are closing Patch,” according to Armstrong.
