Tribune Co. will narrow the web width of all its papers to 44 inches in a series of projects slated for completion in 2010.
The (Baltimore) Sun was the first Tribune daily to have its web width reduced to that size and over the next several months the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, Hartford (Conn.) Courant, South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel, the Daily Press in Newport News, Va., and the Morning Call in Allentown, Pa., will adopt a 44-inch web width.
Crews from Goss International and Pressline Services Inc. will oversee the press modifications.
Tribune declined to comment about the project, which will see some papers shave two inches from their web while the flagship Tribune and L.A. Times move from 48 inches to the narrower format.
