Seattle Times goes CTP,
Transcon taps Nela
The Seattle
Times is set to begin installing two Nela Evolution vision punch
benders.
The purchase is
part of the Seattle Times migration to computer-to-plate.
“We’ve been on
Western Litho standard film processors and platemaking since
1992,” said Dana Reed maintenance and engineering manager for
the Seattle Times.
The paper
purchased two Krause LSJet 300 units through Fuji Graphic
Systems Inc. The two CTP lines will be replacing four Western
Litho exposure units.
Once installed,
the paper will be able to produce 600 plates per hour, which
will be imaged by the two Krause LS Jet CTP machines.
A Nela plate
sortation system, with 54 singlewide storage bins, will sort the
plates based on the custom configuration designed for The Times.
The project is
expected to be completed this November.
Meantime,
Transcontinental Transmag tapped Nela to supply plate-handling
equipment for its Montreal press project.
Nela will
install vision register, punchbend and inspection systems to
process plates exiting three computer-to-plate devices, the firm
said. Installation is slated to begin this December.
