Printing Operations Manager

As an integral member of our Operations management team, your contributions will include developing and implementing ideas and projects which improve production flow, quality, and efficiency, while developing managers, leads, and staff members.

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge of overall newspaper production, including comprehensive knowledge of double-wide newspaper presses and related equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in budgeting and data analysis.
  • Five years management experience in a double-wide newspaper printing operation strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing in a union environment a plus.

Lead Press Operator

The Gazette, located in Colorado Springs, CO with a daily circulation of over 90,000 and Sunday circulation of over 100,000, has an excellent opportunity for a Lead Press Operator.  The qualified candidate will possess strong mechanical and printing skills, and strong leadership. Must be able to work independently and adhere to set production deadlines.  Must be able to set-up and operate a multi-color web offset press (MAN-Roland or Goss Metro).  Must be able to assist with layout, possess strong supervisory skills, and training ability.

This position requires communication with several other departments and managers, thus the qualified candidate will have very strong written and verbal communication skills.  Must be flexible, detail oriented, a team player, and work well under pressure adhering to all production deadlines. Must be able to produce a quality product for our customers, while adhering to all company standards for waste and production times.

Publishing Systems Sales Specialist

ppi Media is looking for a Publishing Systems Sales Specialist to work with the US Team to sell ppi Media products to an account base in a defined territory. This person achieves assigned quota by taking a consultative approach to selling. Focuses on the development of relationships at all levels of newspaper and commercial print organizations, listening to customer needs and providing product solutions and customer service that exceeds their expectations.

The ideal candidate will have extensive newspaper editorial front-end experience gained through working as a “editorial systems editor” or with a front end system company as pre-sales, trainer or applications and have a strong desire to move into sales.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for calling on newspaper and commercial print departmental decision makers to identify potential sales opportunities.
  2. Develop and implement business plans to close identified business.
  3. Responsible for keeping the Sales Manager informed of all sales related activity, market trends, and competitor activity within the territory.
  4. Participates in sales workshops, sales meetings, and/or promotional activities as requested by Sales Manager.
  5. Provides customer base with excellent post-sale follow up.                                            
  6. Pursue new business opportunities and new markets as necessary.
  7. Coordinate efforts with all departments to insure effective integration of sales orders.
  8. Accountable for all record keeping as appropriate and in accordance with ppi Media specifications.                                                                                                                   
  9. Utilizes proper software and technological tools to maintain proper records.                                            
  10. Become proficient in ppi Media’s software applications enabling software demonstrations and Power Point presentations.                                                                                                                                     
  11. Comfortable speaking and giving presentations to large groups.
  12. Extensive travel will be required throughout Canada and the US, plus occasional travel to Germany.
  13. Work hours may vary depending upon the needs of the customers.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. 3+ years of systems experience or related sales experience is (required).
  2. Excellent communications and negotiations skills.
  3. Strong inter-personal communication skills specifically relating to stress management, people management and conflict management.
  4. Ability to learn company supported applications. Ability to learn new applications.
  5. Must have general-level proficiency in multiple browser engines, operating systems, and platforms, and in dual system usage (Macintosh and PC).
  6. Excellent time management skills with ability to use independent judgment effectively.
  7. Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
  8. Understanding of how to use technology/systems to improve work processes and solve problems.

This is a job that requires extensive travel throughout the US and Canada. Some weekend travel will be required.
